The Sunshine🌞

My little Blocktober project: a post-apocalyptic FPS heist where a bandit-infested roadside diner hides a pre-war lab underneath, guarding the legendary prototype energy rifle called The Sunshine.

I mixed the tongue-in-cheek vibe of Fallout: New Vegas and Borderlands 2 with the Roswell diner from Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, then added a final chamber that takes cues from DOOM’s BFG sequence and Half-Life’s Lambda Core.

A pretty bizzare cocktail of some of my favorite titles, with a special ingredient: a 10-hour blockout limit

The Needs

The Needs

I wanted to give myself a time attack challenge: build and develop a full blockout in 10 hours tops, then spend the rest of the time on proper and interesting documentation on Miro.

The level also had to fit a 200×200 m space, give every encounter at least two ways to play it, and end with something that feels like a real reward.

The Solutions

The Solutions

I focused on the golden path: train station, then the diner, then underground tunnels, then the lab complex, and finally the Sunshine Chamber. The diner can be taken loud, sneaky, or fully pacifist, and stealthy players get to eavesdrop on a couple of salsa-loving thugs spilling very useful intel about a hackable Sentry Bot.

The finale is a vertical jump-pad carousel that mixes combat and platforming, and I fully prototyped it in about 2 hours. Grab the gun, blast your way out, and turn the scariest enemies in the level into target practice.
